The Jewish Association for Culture is organizing a nationwide movement for the spreading of Jewish culture among the Jewish population of this country, it was reported here today. One of the first steps in this program is the convening this week-end in Wroclaw of the first general meeting of groups which will plan the mass educational program.
At the meeting in Wroclaw various writers and artists will present a picture of Jewish culture as it exists today, as well as consider a future program. This year has been designated “Jewish Culture Year” in the Jewish community of Poland, and special teams of Jewish writers are already travelling from village to village and from city to city to lecture to the Jews and give public recitations and readings of Jewish literature–both modern and classical.
The Association, which began with a membership of 3,000, has now grown to 14,000 members–one-quarter of the adult Jewish population. It has established 50 local branches in the past two years since it was founded, 43 libraries, some of which have as many as 6,000 volumes, 17 amateur dramatic groups, six orchestras and ten choirs.
