Jewish Delegations Confer with Polish Prime Minister on Polish-jewish Problems

Two Jewish delegations, one speaking in behalf of the Representation of Polish Jewry and the other in behalf of the American Representation of the General Jewish Workers’ Union of Poland, were received by Polish Prime Minister Mikolajczyk in Washington and discussed with him a number of problems concerning the Jews of Poland, it was announced today.

The delegation of the Representation of Polish Jewry demanded that confiscated property of Polish Jews who have been massacred by the transferred after the war to a special Jewish body which will use the funds derived from these properties to finance the reconstruction of Jewish life in Poland. The delegation also demanded that the Polish Government-in-Exile take more active measures against anti-Jewish propaganda in the Polish Army, that it outlaw anti-Semitism and declare all pre-war anti-Jewish laws void.

Similar demands were advanced by the delegation of the General Jewish Workers’ Union which also asked the elimination of reactionary elements in the Polish Cabinet and suggested issuance of an urgent repeated warning to the Germans against annihilation of Jews. The delegation also suggested that the Polish Government-in-Exile issue a general statement on its views with regard to devastated Jewish life in Poland. The Polish Prime Minister stated that he will take up all these matters with his government upon his return to London.
