A demand that the government pay compensation to the Jews who sustained damages to their persons and their business enterprises as a result of the anti-Semitic disturbances in Lemberg was made today by the Jewish deputies, Dr. Heinrich Rosmarin and M. Sommerschein in representations to the District Governor, Mozniewski.
The Jewish representatives described the panic prevailing among the Jewish population and stated that enormous damage had been sustained by Jewish merchants and artisans owing to the riots.
The district Governor stated that peace would be re-established, but added that the other demands require consideration before any reply can be made.
The insurance companies from whom Jewish merchants sought compensation for such property damage as broken windows have refused to make payment declaring that the disturbances are the result of racial hatred, which is excluded from insurance policies.
The situation is quiet in Lemberg today.
