Jews in the Paris area who want information on any religious subject or who are simply seeking the address of the nearest kosher butcher may get it by dialing a telephone number free of charge. The service is provided by the Jewish Consistory of Paris which has set up a special center to dispense information on theoretical and practical religious subjects. These include counseling on matters of halacha-religious law–and advise to parents on Jewish educational facilities and religious services in the city’s synagogues and in the suburbs. The center keeps a special file on the ingredients of various canned foods sold in French markets for the benefit of housewives who observe the rules of kashrut.
