Dr. Melvin Jahss, orthopaedic surgeon of the Hospital for Joint Diseases, has been named recipient of the Gold Medal Award of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons for the year’s best exhibit of clinical importance in orthopaedic surgery, it was disclosed here today by Dr. J.J. Golub, executive vice-president of the hospital.
The award was given to Dr. Jahss for a special study he conducted of various methods of treatment of a crippling children’s illness called “epiphseolysis,” which is characterized by an abnormal condition causing the hip bone to become deformed. His study was made at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, affiliated with and supported by the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of New York, Dr. Jahss was born in New York City and graduated from the New York University College of Medicine in 1944.
