Nationalist newspapers predicted today that the action of physicians’ congress yesterday in barring Jewish members was the “first step toward eliminating Jews from all Poland.”
The papers described the action as an “historic date in the fight to rid the free professions of Jews.” They reported Nationalist delegates voted with adherents of the Government party in support of the step.
The resolution barring Jews as members was adopted, by a vote of 140 to 106, at the Congress of the Physicians’ Union of the Polish Republic. After lodging a protest, 30 Jewish delegates walked out of the session. Practice of Jewish physicians is not affected by the action because the union is an unofficial organization.
