About 200 persons attended a conference held in Manchester, arranged by the Central Committee for Jewish Education, whose activities form part of the work of the council of the Jewish War Memorial.
Dr. A. Eichholz presided. Professor S. Brodetsky, of the University of Leeds, read a paper on the aims and objects of Jewish education. Rabbi M. Gollop dealt with the training of teachers. Dr. A. Cohen presented a paper on the Jewish education of girls.
The evening session was devoted to questions brought forward by area committees, including the suggested appointment of assistant directors of education for the different provincial areas, and the question of suitable publlications for adolescents introduced by the representatives of the North Midlands area and two other subjects introduced by the Leeds Area Committee, that the Central Committee for Jewish Education should arrange periodical public meetings to encourage Hebrew education and that the papers to be read at annual conference should be on practical subjects in preference to academic topics.
The Kehilath Anshe Magriv, the oldest Jewish Congregation in Chicago, will celebrate its eightieth anniversary at the Temple Auditorium, Sunday morning December 11. The chief address will be given by Rabbi Nathan Krass of Temple Emanu-El, New York City.
The Reverend George H. Thomas of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and Prof. Richard D. Hollington of the Carrett Ri##cal Institute will speak at the exerises.
In the evening the Congregation will hold its Jubilee banquet at the Shorelend Hotel. The guest speaker will be Judge Henry Horney.
