A group of about 50 Jewish families from the US would like to settle in the Arab Christian township of Shaferam in Western Galilee and as far as the townsfolk are concerned they will be warmly welcomed. The first of the Americans are expected to arrive in Israel in June. Mayor Ibrahim Nimer of Shaferam has written to the group that the town council welcomes their initiative to settle there and renew the Jewish community that ceased to exist in 1914.
