The first fellowship program for the training of foreign graduate students in social work, to be set up by an American social work organization, was announced here by the Jewish Family Service Agency. The agency will work in cooperation with the Institute of International Education, which administers the Fulbright scholarships, and the University of California.
The graduate foreign students selected by the institute will study for a master’s degree at the University of California School of Social Welfare, and will do required field work with the family agency. The agency will provide a stipend to cover the students’ living expenses.
The fellowship will be known as the Hyman Kaplan Memorial Fellowship, after the former executive director of the Jewish Welfare Federation here. A special fund has been established for the purpose. It is expected that the first graduate student will be selected in Israel, although the fellowship is open to students from all countries.
