A grant of $13,120 has been received by the National Center for Jewish Film here from the American Film Institute National Endowment for the Arts to support the center’s program, Sharon Rivo, executive director of the center, reported. The center was recently established in association with Brandeis university and the American Jewish Historical Society to identify and preserve all films, fictional and documentary, relevant to the Jewish experience, she said.
In setting up an archive for Jewish cinematographic materials, the center has acquired hundreds of films from private collections, filmmakers and Jewish organizations, both here and abroad. Ms. Rivo said preservation of some films requires their transfer to acetate stock to guard against loss because of deterioration of the nitrate film base used by the film industry before World War II.
