Jewish flight to the suburbs has prompted the Amsterdam Ashkenazic Congregation’s council to approve construction of a new synagogue in the modern garden suburb of Amstelveen, south of Amsterdam, where some 1500 Jews now reside. At present, services are held in rented premises which are inadequate. The new structure will cost on estimated one million guilders. It will be financed by the sale of the 40-year old Lekstreet Synagogue.
