One of the main topics that will be taken up at the coming convention of the Jewish Grocers’ Association of Greater New York, to be held Sunday, March 9, at the Central Plaza, will be the chain store problem.
It is said that the gigantic chain systems are now invading what has heretofore been known as specific Jewish territory, and are trying to crowd out the Jewish grocer. While it is true that the big grocery chain systems have entered the retail grocery field throughout the country, they have made very little headway in New York City, proportionately.
It is expected that over 500 delegates, representing about 30 locals in New York City and Newark, N. J., will be in attendance. Invitations to address the convention have already been accepted by Congressman William I. Sirovich, Dr. Shirley W. Wynne, Health Commissioner of the City of New York, and Dr. A. E. Albrecht, director of the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets.
