The Florida Anti-Defamation League has appealed to State Attorney General Richard Ervin for an investigation of public meetings and cross burnings by the Ku Klux Klan in this state in recent weeks.
In a letter to Mr. Ervin, Paul Seiderman, chairman of the Florida ADL executive committee, asked for an investigation to “determine the existence of a criminal conspiracy.” A copy of the letter was also forwarded to Gov. LeRoy Collins with a request that he urge the legislature to tighten state laws aimed at the Klan and similar organizations. Miami Beach Mayer D. Lee Powell has pledged to aid a campaign for such a legislative program.
