Jewish officials here have criticized the sponsors of the “New England Rally for God, Family and Country” for allowing the sale and distribution of an anti-Semitic book at their four-day rally ending today at the Statler-Hilton Hotel here.
In a joint statement, the New England Regional Board of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith and the Jewish Community Council of Metropolitan Boston accused the rally sponsors of “being soft on anti-Semitism and prejudice” by distributing the book “None Dare Call it Conspiracy.” The Jewish agencies charged that the book “rehashes the anti-Jewish canards of the 1920’s and 1930’s.” The paperback was written by Gary Allen of Rossmoor, California, a writer for the John Birch Society’s monthly, American Opinion. Gary Allen was listed as one of the key speakers at the rally.
Simon Scheff of the ADL and Justin W. Wyner of the JCC of Metropolitan Boston charged that Birchers have been urged to distribute “None Dare Call It Conspiracy” which, they say revives the anti-Semitic propaganda of the 1920’s carried out by agents of the late Henry Ford I through the weekly newspaper Dearborn Independent and repeated in the 1930’s by the notorious anti-Semitic radio commentator Father Charles E. Coughlin. Ford later repudiated the anti-Jewish campaign and publicly apologized.
