Arrangements by which the National Jewish Welfare Board has served as the sponsor of the American Jewish Historical Society since 1948 has been terminated by mutual agreement as of January 1, it was announced here today.
At the same time it was also announced that the two organizations have jointly established a new Jewish cultural project to be known as the Community Education Service on American Jewish History. This cooperative undertaking is designed to function as the conductor of activities disseminating information on American Jewish history and as a guide in introducing such information into the programs of Jewish groups. It will operate mainly through the creation and publication of program materials, the preparation of exhibits and the sponsorship of the annual Jewish History Week.
The Community Education Service will be available also for consultation and services to Jewish organizations and the stimulation of study and discussion groups. It is expected that within the scope of its services and activities the Service will consider projects related to the development of Jewish Community Center archives, the tercentenary celebration of Jewish settlement in the United States and the centennial of the Jewish Community Center movement.
