The Jewish question will be taken up as a matter of first importance after the Spanish issue during the Chamberlain-Mussolini discussions, informed sources stated today after the arrival of the British Prime Minister.
British officials declined, however, to confirm or deny that there was a definite plan to discuss the Jewish question, although they commented that it was natural to assume that Mr. Chamberlain would seek an understanding with Premier Mussolini on this topic.
Meanwhile, a delegation representing foreign Jews in Italy — whose expulsion by March 12 has been decreed — handed to Lord Perth, British Ambassador, a message for Mr. Chamberlain. It was understood that Lord Perth would transmit the message tomorrow, when he discusses with Mr. Chamberlain the Italian Jewish problem. Jewish circles are awaiting the discussions with the most intense interest, believing they will have a strong effect on decisions to be taken by the caucus of Italian ministers later this month and the Fascist Grand Council meeting scheduled for February 4.
