Justice Charles Bernstein, a Jew who has been a member of this State’s high court since 1959, was elected by the members of the court here today as Chief Justice, Born in St, Louis and educated in Los Angeles, Chief Justice Bernstein practiced law here since 1930, and was an assistant attorney general from 1937 to 1941.
