A check for $10,000 was presented to the trade onions of Sweden today by the Jewish Labor Committee in recognition of the asylum given thousands of Danish Jewish refugees by the Swedish Government. The check was given to Danish Minister-in-Exile Henryk de Kauffmann who will transmit the funds to the Swedish labor groups. to help them care for Jewish refugees from Denmark.
Members of the delegation of the Jewish Labor Committee who made the presentation, and who also were received by the Swedish Minister W. Bostroem, were Adolph Held, chairman of the Committee; Charles Zimmerman, vice-president of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union; Abraham Miller, secy.-treas. of the New-York Joint Board of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union; Joseph Laskin, general secretary of the Workmen’s Circle, and William Wolpert, secretary of the United Hebrew Trades and Jacob Pat, executive secretary of the Committee.
At the same time, the Committee issued a statement paying tribute to Sweden’s hospitality and expressing the hope that its gift would help in defraying the costs of maintaining the thousands of refugees.
