The first conference of Jewish land-settlers in White Russia was opened Friday in Minsk. One hundred and fifty delegates, representing twenty thousand Jewish peasants, attended the conference.
Adamovitch, the President of the White Russian Sovnarcom, in welcoming the delegates stated that the attachment to the soil and the engaging in productive work on the part of Russian Jewry, will mark a new turn in their history.
“Notwithstanding the fact that White Russia feels an insufficiency of land, the Government has granted over one thousand desiatin of land to the Jews,” he declared. “Another thousand Jewish families will be settled on the land during the coming year. The lack of employment and poverty among Jews in White Russia is still great. Eight thousand able bodied Jews who are willing to settle on the land are awaiting their turn.”
