The mass expulsion of Jews from various towns in Poland to the ghetto in Warsaw, which has now been resumed, has prompted the Jewish leaders in Warsaw to appeal to the Nazi occupational authorities asking for the enlargement of the ghetto territory in order to accommodate the thousands of newcomers, it is reported in Polish newspapers reaching here today.
The reports state that the Nazi authorities complied with the request of the Jewish leaders and added a number of streets to the ghetto. The names of the streets, however, are not given. It is assumed here that the added section is composed of the slums located at the outskirts of the city which border the ghetto.
Because of the constantly mounting number of sick in the ghetto, the Jewish hospital in Warsaw was compelled this month to establish 400 new beds. The raging epidemics necessitated making room in the hospital for another 500 beds. The Jewish population in the ghetto is making unprecedented sacrifices to enable the hospital to acquire the equipment needed for the installation of the additional beds.
