A number of prominent Jewish leaders are members of a committee backing a new organization, Institute for American Democracy, formed to fight both the radical right and the radical left, its chairman announced yesterday.
Dr. Franklin H. Littell, president of Iowa Wesleyan University, who is chairman of the new group, told a press conference that the 48-member sponsoring committee included leaders in religion, business, education, labor and public service, and political leaders.
The Jewish members of the committee include Dore Schary, chairman of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith; Morris Abram, president of the American Jewish Committee; Leon Keyserling, the economist; Jacob Blaustein, honorary president of the American Jewish Committee, and former member of the United States delegation to the United Nations; C.E. Israel, vice-president of Fashion Frocks; Jacob Potofsky, president of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union; and Dr. William Haber, dean of the College of Education of Michigan University.
