The 70th birthday of Harry Rogoff, editor-in-chief of the Jewish Daily Forward, was observed here yesterday at the Hotel Commodore by more than 400 Jewish writers, leaders and heads of Jewish organizations under the chairmanship of Alexander Kahn, general manager of the Forward.
Speakers at the celebration all emphasized Mr. Rogoff’s great contributions to the Jewish press, the .furthering of Jewish communal life in the United States and the strengthening of the Jewish labor movement. In replying, Mr. Rogoff emphasized the role which the Jewish Daily Fowrard with which he has been associated for almost 50 years–has played in American Jewish life.
The speakers included David Dubinsky, head of the International Ladies Garment Workers’ Union; Louis Hollander of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union; Adolph Held, president of the Jewish Labor Committee; Leon Arkin and Nathan Chanin, president and general secretary, respectively, of the Workmen’s Circle; Dr. L. Fogelman, assistant editor of the Jewish Dally Forward; Judge Jacob Pankin, and others. Many messages of greetings to Mr. Rogoff were received at the celebration from various organizations in the United States and Israel.
