Nearly a score of leaders of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations met with Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger, Undersecretary of State Joseph J. Sisco and Presidential assistant Leonard Garment in the State Department Thursday to discuss Middle East issues for the second time in six weeks. It was understood that the subject of Soviet Jewry was not discussed.
A statement which Rabbi Israel Miller, Conference chairman, read afterwards to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency outside of Kissinger’s office, said: “Secretary Kissinger met with a group of Jewish leaders for close to two hours this afternoon Rabbi Israel Miller and Max Fisher reported for the group that there was a full and frank discussion of subjects of concern to the Jewish community, particularly focused on the Secretary’s forthcoming visit and negotiations in the Middle East.”
Rabbi Miller declined to discuss details of the meeting. However, it was understood that the Secretary had indicated he would meet again with the group after his Middle East trip.
