Jewish leaders were urged today “to be on the alert” for any new peril that might threaten the Jews as a minority group in unstable areas of the world. The call was issued by Dr. Israel Goldstein addressing a press conference in his capacity as chairman of the western hemisphere section of the World Jewish Congress.
Asserting that the “exact nature and locale” of these perils cannot be predicted, Dr. Goldstein reported, however, that in the past three years the World Jewish Congress has had to intervene to protect the status of Jews in Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Aden, Iran, Bahrein, Algeria and Pakistan. He reported that the World Jewish Congress in the past three years acted on 150 cases concerned with the status of Jewish DP’s and the curbing of anti-Semitic propaganda in Germany and stressed the danger of “the resurgence of Nazism in the whole of Germany.”
