Jewish Leaders,diplomats Greet Palmer

American Jewish leaders and representatives of the diplomatic corps in New York City attended the reception and tea given by the Jewish Daily Bulletin yesterday in honor of Ely E. Palmer, newly appointed American Consul General in Jerusalem.The reception for Mr. Palmer took place in the Hotel Pennsylvania. Mr. Palmer.who by virtue of his post,is the ranking American representative in Palestine departs for his new post today on the liner Excalibur of the American Export Lines.

Introduced by Jacob Landan,publisher of the Bulletin who declared that he was certain that Mr. Palmer would like his work in his new post and would contribute “in making Palestine a happy and prosperous country. The new Consul General,in acknowledging the introduction,declared that he had found widespread interest manifested in his appointment to the Jerusalem post.

“Not only are my friends interested,”Mr. Palmer declared,”but even strangers in all parts of the country have written me telling of the opportunity I now have for real service in Palestine.

“I have always tried to build a feeling of good will in previous posts and I was fortnate in having as an associate in my work,my wife,who played an important part in the work.

“I am now going to a community where the goverment is British.I know from my experience in Vancouver that British government directness and frankness make the discussion of problems in the open much simpler.”
