All Bulgaria has been whipped into an anti-Semitic frenzy by the news of the marriage of Radka Nikolacva, twenty-four-year-old granddaughter of General Nikolaeff and high society member, to Moses Levi, Jewish, of Rustchuk.
General Nikolaeff is famous throughout his country as a national hero. When he learned a short time ago that his granddaughter had secretly embraced the Jewish faith and had taken the name of Ruth, he disinherited the girl, complying in this manner with the demand made by the anti-Semitic press that he take some action in the matter.
DEMONSTRATIONS ARE HELD
Demonstrations against the marriage, which was performed near Belgrade, were held all over Bulgaria before it took place.
The couple first applied to the Grand Rabbi of Sofia, who refused to bear responsibility for the marriage. In Belgrade the Jewish community similarly refused to permit the performance of the ceremony. In Semlin, near Belgrade, an independent rabbi who would perform the rite was finally found.
When the news reached Sofia, fresh anti-Semitic outbreaks began. The house which Moses Levi owned here was burnt to the ground.
The couple have taken refuge from persecution by Jews and Christians of Jugoslavia and Bulgaria in Paris, where they went hollowing the ceremony.
