Jewish Marine is First in 50 Years to Be Promoted to Rank of Brigadier General

A Jewish Marine Corps officer currently serving in Southeast Asia has been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General, the National Jewish Welfare Board reported. According to the JWB, Gen. Leonard Earl Fribourg of Cleveland, is the first Jewish Marine to attain that rank while on active duty in the past 50 years.

Gen. Fribourg, 47, enlisted in the Marine Corps 27 years ago during World War II and received 14 medals and decorations for service in the South Pacific, Korea, and Vietnam.
