Recent investigations by committees of the “Ort” Organization reveal an urgent need of machines and tools among the Jewish mechanics.
The condition of the mechanic, who has not yet put himself on his feet after the world-war and its consequences, has of late become critical due to the present unemployment in Poland. The craftsman has to struggle hard to secure his livelihood, and has no possibility of saving enough money to buy a machine.
The “Ort” is compelled to limit its aid in supplying tools and machinery because philanthropic organizations like the Joint Distribution Committee have ceased to subsidize this particular branch of the “Ort” work. This has created a condition whereby the “Ort” was forced to refuse help to over one thousand working families in the cities of Warsaw and Lodz alone.
