Master Sergeant Benjamin Roth, U. S. Aid Corps mechanic, who was a member of the Byrd Expedition to the South Pole, will receive the Soldiers’ Medal from the government, according to an announcement yesterday by F. Trubee Davison, Assistant Secretary of War for Aviation at a dinner in honor of Admiral Byrd.
In conferring the honor upon Roth, the War Department states:
“Sergeant Roth performed his duties as an airplane mechanic efficiently and with great devotion to duty. On one occasion, he almost lost his life when part of the Barrier cliff collapsed. He won especial commendation and promotion from Admiral Byrd for his unflinching devotion to his duties.”
