Government protection of shops owned by Jews which are the target of attack and agitation by the Nazis was demanded today in a memorandum submitted to Chancellor Dollfuss by Jewish merchants organizations.
Protesting against the anti-Jewish boycott agitation which has spread throughout the country, the memorandum demands that the government take measures to prevent the attacks and to punish the Nazi agitators with the full force of the law.
The memorandum also insists that those responsible for disseminating the Nazi anti-Jewish boycott propaganda be held for trial. They insist that the conduct of this agitation is contrary to the constitutional provisions for the protection of the Jews.
The Jewish Community of Vienna will also make representations to the authorities on the same matter.
The government has deferred its reply to the memorandum.
