Daniel Z. Henkin, 42, a well-known Washington newspaperman of Jewish faith, was today appointed to a newly-created Government post as “director of operations” in the Defense Department’s office of public affairs. A Pentagon announcement said Mr. Henkin will have “special responsibility” for supervising information and community relations work.
Secretary of Defense Robert Mciamara stated: “I know he will make a significant contribution to our continuing efforts to increase public understanding of the department and its mission.” Mr. Henkin is the husband of an Israeli-born woman who formerly served as a secretary of the staff of the Israel Embassy in Washington.
