The Coordinating Board of Jewish Organizations suggested today to the United Nations Ad Hoc Committee on Statelessness that in order to eliminate certain types of statelessness, it adopt the principle whereby there will be “no loss of nationality without the acquisition of a new nationality.”

The Board pointed out that such a rule — which was originally proposed by U.N. Secretary-General Trygve Lie — could eliminate cases where naturalized citizens are deprived of their citizenship because of prolonged residence abroad.
