A split in the petroleum trust recently formed in Poland with a view of dominating the market by a policy of eliminating the retailers by refusing to sell them, is the dim hope of a large number of Jewish petroleum dealers in Polish towns and villages, in order that they may maintain their economic position.
After the establishment of the trust combining larger and smaller refineries for the sale of their product, the Jewish petroleum retail dealers formed a nationwide association to counteract the danger threatening to their interests. The activities of the association have already shown some effect, which was reflected in the demand of the smaller refineries, members of the combine, to revise the combine’s previous decision not to sell the retailers. The two leading petroleum concerns, Standard, and Nobel, insist, however, on the original decision, threatening the smaller concerns with leaving the combine in case the demand is pressed. The matter will come up for final decision in January 1929.
It is stated here that the majority of shareholders of the Standard and Nobel concerns are French and Austrian Jews.
