A gift of $1,000,000 was made to New York University by Joe Weinstein, noted Jewish philanthropist. The money will be used to build student residences at the university’s Washington Square Center in lower Manhattan.
James N. Hester, University president, said the new residence halls, a pair of nine-story buildings, would be named the “Joe Weinstein Residence Halls. ” The buildings, one for men and one for women, will provide housing for 575 students. Dr. Hester said the residences would help to reduce a housing shortage. There are more than 1,500 foreign students at the center. The halls will be completed this fall.
