Dr. Sam Rose, a young Jewish physician here, has worked out a new treatment for arthritis which involves the use of a drug which can be produced cheaply to substitute for the costly hormone cortisone. It is expected that Dr. Rose will soon receive a grant from either the state government or Melbourne University to permit him to continue his work.
Dr. O.S. Frankel, Jewish agricultural expert of New Zealand, has been named chief of the Division of Plant Industries of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization. He will be responsible for the research activities of some 15 separate institutions throughout Australia.
