May 3, Constitution Day, was celebrated yesterday by Poles and Jews alike. Services were held in the Grand Synagogue on Tlomackie, where representatives of the Jewish community and members of the Club of Jewish Deputies attended. Services were also held at the Nozik Synagogue where Dr. Mizes, chaplain in the Polish army, preached.
An imeresting difference of opinion between the Warsaw Kehillah and the Berek Joselewiez Memorial Building Committee developed, it was disclosed yesterday.
The Committee, which plans to erect a memorial in Kock in memory of Joselewicz who led a Jewish regiment in the Polish revolution of 1863, defending Warsaw against the Russian army, announced that it has approved the final version of the inscription on the monument. The inscription is in verse and says that Joselewicz “gained glory not through bartering but through blood.” The Executive Committee of the Kehillah, which contributed toward the memorial fund, protested against this version and demanded that the word “bartering” be eliminated.
