The campaign for the forthcoming municipal elections is already in full swing here. In a statement issued yesterday, Z. Bychowski, one of the leaders of the bloc of national Jewish parties, declared that the bloc will strive to elect a large number of Jewish members to the Warsaw City Council, which will enable the election of a Jew as vice-president of the Council. This would greatly benefit the Jewish population in Poland’s capital, he stated.
The leaders of the Agudath Israel, the Orthodox organization which has joined the bloc, have met with opposition within its own ranks on account of their joining the bloc. The Agudath Israel has issued an appeal to the Orthodox Youth Association, urging its members to campaign for the bloc. At a meeting of the Association held yes-yesterday, it was decided, following a heated debate, to refrain from participating in the campaign.
