The Jewish population of Canada has increased by approximately 20 percent in the decade from 1941 to 1951, the results of a census made public here today show. The general population has increased 18 percent during the same period, the census established.
The census, taken in 1951, listed the Jewish population as numbering 204, 834 by religion and 181,670 by ethnic origin. It also revealed that 6,599 Jews entered Canada in 1951 as compared with 2,429 in 1950.
At the same time, it was reported here today that the number of Jewish immigrants who arrived in Canada in the first five months of 1952 showed a decrease of 2.73 percent as compared with the number of Jews who entered the country during the first five months of the previous year. The total number of immigrants who entered Canada during the first five months of this year showed an increase of 36 percent over the number who arrived during the same period a year ago. The number of German immigrants shows an increase of about 110 percent.
