Jewish Population of Poltava Deserting Town on Account of Food Shortage and Rushing to Charkoff

All the Jewish stocking and knitted goods factories in Poltava, which were established with the assistance of the O.R.T. with machinery provided through its agency by American relatives of the Jewish population, have closed down, owing to the sudden rush of Jewish workers in their hundreds from Poltava to Charkoff, because of the acute shortage of bread existing in Poltava.

Most of them are rushing to Charkoff, only a few hourse from Poltava by train, where work and food can be obtained without difficulty. The factories which have been closed down, are among the largest of their kind in Russia, and were established by the Jewish declassed, and conducted on a co-operative basis, the Agrojoint and the O.R.T. supplying them with raw material. Thousands of declassed Jews who worked in these factories were reinstated in their citizen cirhg rights on that account, and in consequence are now able to obtain employmet in any factory as full workers.
