The bureau of personnel of the United-States Post Office Department ruled formally here today that Jewish post office personnel wishing to attend religious services during the forthcoming High Holy Days shall, “as far as practicable, be permitted to be absent on annual leave for that purpose. “

“The policy of the Department, ” the Bureau noted in its official Bulletin, “is to cooperate in making possible the observance by Federal employees of the various established religious holidays of their faith; for example, Easter, Good Friday, Yom Kippur, Rosha Hashanah, etc. ” The Bulletin then called attention to the fact that Rosh Hashanah starts this year at sundown of September 26, while Yom Kippur starts at sundown of October 5.
