Chanuka greetings sent to Israelis by 27 Soviet Jewish “prisoners of conscience” were released here today to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency by the National Conference on Soviet Jewry. Fifteen prisoners–including Ilya Glezer, Anatoly Goldfeld, Lassal Kaminsky, Lev Korenblit, Mikhail Korenblit, Eduard Kuznetsov, Vladimir Markman, Boris Penson, Arkady Shpilberg, Yisroel Zalmanson and Sylva Zalmanson Kuznetsov–wrote from the Potma camp in Mordovia: “On the day of Chanuka, the holiday of liberation, we the prisoners of the camps in Soviet Russia are sending our greetings to Jewish people and we wish peace and success. We know about the struggle for our release.”
Twelve other prisoners–including Anatoly Altman, Hillel Butman, David Chernoglaz, Mark Dymshits; Lev Yagman, Vulf Zalmanson and Leib Khanokh–wrote: “We here in the District of Perm behind the wire…are celebrating the holiday of Chanuka and we united with Jews all over the world with the words of hope ‘Holiday of Freedom.’ We hope that the day will come when we will be able to be together in Israel. Shalom and happiness to our country.”
