The Synagogue Council of America made it clear today that the consultation in Switzerland, in which 14 Jewish religious leaders from the United States, Europe and Israel will participate with a representative group of Protestant, Anglican and Orthodox Christian leaders, would “under no circumstances” have a theological basis.
The 14 Jewish religious leaders will represent the Synagogue Council of America. The five-day consultation, which will open on August 16, will take place in Geneva at the building called the Ecumenical Institute, World Council of Churches, Chateau de Bossey. Before the consultation was convened, the participants representing each group arrived at a clear understanding that this consultation would be a sociological discussion of the problems which humanity faces in “The Situation of Man in the World Today.”
The consultation represents the first occasion that such a broadly representative group of leaders from the Jewish religious community and the Protestant religious community will meet to discuss and evaluate their common concerns for the world today.
