The Swedish Academy of Science named Prof. Max Born tonight as a joint recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics. The German-born Jewish scientist was honored for his fundamental research in quantum mechanics, and especially for his statistical interpretation of wave functions.
Born in Breslau in 1882, Prof. Born left Germany as a refugee from the Hitler regime after a brilliant scientific career and settled in Britain. He is now Tait Professor of Natural Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh.
