A new wave of Jewish refugees from the Ukraine has commenced to pour into Bessarabia. On account of the obstacles with which they met at the Roumanian border, some of the refugees made an attempt to cross the Dniester on foot, while the river was covered with ice; but in the middle of the crossing the ice broke causing the loss of many lives. According to reports by the survivors, 7 Jewish immigrants from Kamenetz-Podolsk were among the victims of this catastrophe.
Many of the refugees have lost their way in the frontier mountains. One of them, Isaac Roitman of Sinkov, Kiev, was killed by falling from a cliff.
