The Jewish Scientific Institute, which was established here recently, will make available in one place various works on Jewish life in Bulgaria in modern and ancient times. Although the Jewish libraries and museums in most of Eastern Europe and the Balkans were damaged or destroyed during the Nazi occupation, the libraries in Sofia and other Bulgarian cities were undamaged. The institute will bring together the most valuable works from these libraries. It will also sponsor research into Jewish folklore in Bulgaria and make scientific studies of the history, ethnography and economic life of Jews in the Balkans, and particularly in this country.
