The Budapest City Council which sends seven members and seven deputy members to the Hungarian-Senate, has held a meeting at which it has elected its representatives, and not one of the 14 is a Jew, despite the fact that there is a large Jewish population in the capital which plays an important part in public and economic life. Dr. Samuel Gluecksthal, a leading member of the Budapest Jewish Community, has been for many years a member of the Senate, representing the Communal Party, but in the present election there was a dead set against him because he is a Jew, and a number of members of his Party did not give him their vote.

The defeat of Dr. Gluecksthal, who has for nearly 20 years played a great part in the municipal life of the capital, and is one of our best municipal workers, the “Pester Lloyd” writes, is a loss to the Senate, which is deplored in all quarters where his services are understood and appreciated.
