The Commission on Jewish Chaplaincy of the National Jewish Welfare Board announced that Jewish servicemen in the 11 Corps area in Vietnam have already contributed $500 to the United Jewish Appeal’s Israel Emergency Fund, according to word received from Chaplain Ernest D, Lapp, Jewish chaplain in Vietnam. In another report, Chaplain Aaron D. Michelson, the Jewish chaplain at Fort Knox, Ky., stated that Jewish men contributed approximately $700 to the Israel Emergency Fund in a five-day period.
Describing these reports as among the first in a series that are expected from Jewish chaplains throughout the world, JWB’s Commission on Jewish Chaplaincy noted that Jewish military personnel at Camp Lejeune, N.C., where Chaplain Norman R. Patz is assigned, would soon complete their emergency drive and that Jewish men at Fort Bliss, Texas, whose spiritual leader is Chaplain Isaac H. Celnik, were participating through the Jewish community of El Paso.
