The day of protest set aside today by the Jewish Deputies Club against the decision of the Polish government to withdraw its plan for easing the tax burdens of tradesmen passed quietly. The shutting down of stores and shops was almost 100 percent with the Jewish business men in the principal trading centers heeding the call almost to a man.
While Jewish places of business were shut down tight their owners and employes stood in front of the shops. Street traders, too, were not working and reports from many provincial towns show that Jewish shops and a number of Christian stores were closed.
