Jewish State Issue at Mizrachi Convention: if There is to Be No Jewish State in Palestine We Religio

If there is not to be a Jewish State in Palestine, then we religious Jews have nothing to do in the Mizrachi or in the Zionist movement, was the view expressed to-day by a large number of speakers at the continued session of the Mizrachi World Convention here, in discussing a proposal by Rabbi Fishman, one of the three members of the retiring Mizrachi World Presidium, that the Mizrachi should alter its official programme to read: The Mizrachi aim at the establishment of a Jewish State in Palestine on the basis of the Torah and Jewish tradition.

The Convention is continuing to discuss behind closed doors the crisis in the Mizrachi movement created by the resignation of its Presidium following the threat of secession made by the German Mizrachi delegation. A large number of speakers declared themselves in support of the Mizrachi leaders in their opposition to Dr. Weizmann’s statement in Berlin that Palestine should be built as a bi-national State and in contradiction to the German delegation supported Rabbi Berlin also in his action in resigning from the Zionist World Executive. The German delegation were censured for creating a crisis, and they were appealed to not to carry their threat into effect and thus split the Mizrachi movement.
