The Jewish schools throughout Palestine were closed today following the proclamation of a strike yesterday by the Hebrew Teachers Association.
The strike was called in an effort to force the Jewish National Council of Palestine, the institution in charge of the Jewish school system, to submit to the demand of the teachers for an increase in salary. The Council has been negotiating with representatives of the teachers for several weeks trying to prevent the strike. The instructors claim that the high cost of living in the country makes it impossible for them to exist on their present salary.
